The Federal Assistance Programs
The lifeline program provides a partial subsidy of monthly local phone bills.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Lifeline, individuals or families must receive benefits under one of the following programs:
Medicaid
Food Stamps
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Federal Public Housing Assistance
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Only eligible consumers may enroll in the program. The Lifeline program is limited to one benefit per household, either wireline or wireless service. Lifeline is a government benefit program, and consumers who willfully make false statements in order to obtain the benefit can be punished by fine or imprisonment or can be barred from the program.
